Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Zyliss Jumbo Garlic Press with CleanerCustomer Review: Zyliss Jumbo Garlic Press Summary: 5 StarsBest garlic press out there!! You don't really have to peel the garlic clove either to get great results. Don't waste your money on other garlic presses.
Customer Review: Performance of Zyliss garlic press Summary: 5 StarsThis product was highly rated by Cooks Illustrated and since the previous garlic press I owned was virtually useless, I decided to spend the money and order this, and it has lived up to its rating. There still is some waste from the outer skin, but it is sooooooooooooo much better than what I had before.
Customer Review: Did not work Summary: 1 StarsI may have received a faulty one. I canot get this to press out the garlic. I am following the instructions, but the galic gets pressed down and then clogs. Nothing comes through the holes.
Seems like a losy design to me.
Customer Review: The best - even with shallots Summary: 5 StarsIt's all been said, my 2 cents: I'm a big fan, even works on shallots! The brushed aluminum makes it even easier to clean.
Customer Review: Learning curve, inconvenient cleaning attachment Summary: 3 StarsThis works better than other presses I've used, but there are several things I haven't enjoyed.
First, after five months, the non-stick coating is beginning to wear off. Although the blackening on the pressed garlic is apparently not dangerous, it's unattractive.
Second, the design of the press is such that it requires a fair bit of muscle to work even two cloves through.
Third, I found it hard to get to grips with the cleaning attachment. It is a fussy little thing and not safe just to throw in the dishwasher, where it will not stay safely on the top rack.
Finally, although it is now a fairly quick process for me to use this, it did take a number of weeks before it became comfortable.
In all, it is a serviceable gadget, but the wear and the learning curve are real downsides. When something better becomes available -- and Cook's Illustrated says something better is now available (Kuhn Rikon 2315 Epicurean Garlic Press ) -- I'll switch.
